[opensuse-kde] 12.3/4.10.5 shutdown Vista multiboot Toshiba laptop from KDM login screen?
Is it possible? Reboot works, but not turn off, just switching to a black screen tty login prompt instead. I combed through kdmrc looking for a reason why not, but didn't find one, and in the opensuse mailing lists archives only found http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2013-03/msg00958.html and https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=809610 seemingly on point, neither of which helped. Chipset is i945/ICH7. Installation is only two days old. I didn't notice whether turn off worked before applying updates. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Felix, Can you shutdown the system from a KDM login screen without issues ? You could try to install lightdm as an alternative to KDM (or even GDM) to see if this is really a KDE issue or that it is something with the installation itself. I could try another dm, but I won't here. KDM[3,4] has been fine for me for years. I'm not going to put something else I've never before used on a system going out the door within days. Shutdown is what didn't work. Do you mean reboot? That worked/works. I thought I found a solution by reading https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=812592 and commented there, but on my first try to reboot instead of shutdown, KDM shut down, leaving only a login prompt and the boot messages tail in its wake. What still doesn't work on this installation is PreSelectUser. Both previous and a specific user, in every section in which they appear, commented or not, result always in no user selected at all. Consequently, focus password always fails too, as does DefaultUser. I've never seed such a problem before, ever in KDM, openSUSE or otherwise. This is with UseTheme = false and regardless whether kdm-branding-upstream or kdm-branding-openSUSE is installed. I tried unsetting UseTheme=false, and that didn't help either, so I'm thinking something was really wrong in the initial installation. This was the first time I installed KDE at the outset instead of installing minimal and adding it after booting in a couple of years or so. Now I'm trying to decide whether I should reinstall 12.3, or dup to 13.1, unless someone here has a better idea. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." I solved this by upgrading to 4.11.2. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg.
