Hello, I almost give up. Since the update to KDE 3.1 I can not download e.g .zip files). When klicking on a Internet link for a .zip-file download Konqueror downloads it into a temp dir and opens it in the browser. When right klicking on the link and select "Save Link as" Konqueror does ask for where to store it and creates a file but the file has nothing to do with the original in terms of size. When I get to a site with automatically starting downloads the Konqueror version before KDE 3.1 asked me where to store it. Now the download starts automatically in a temp dir as discribed above. I have no clue what determines this behaviour and therefore do not know what to tweak. Does anybodey of you have a hint? Stefan

I did some ore testing. For me it seems to be the problem of the automatuc download. Formerly (below KDE 3.1) I was asked where to store it. Now Konqueror does not ask and puts it into a temp dir.and opens the archieve afterwards in the browser. Once downloaded a klick on the link always opens the archieve. some .zip files from other sites do just fine. klicking, being asked, download. Regards Stefan

Part of the problem you are encountering is caused by the fact that some servers do not have the mimetype of .zip (.tar.gz) installed. However, if you would like to change how things will be opened in Konqy, go to Settings|Configure Konqueror|File Associations. Click the plus next to the word application. Scroll down to the items x-zip and look at what application is listed as the first one in the Application Preference Order. You can shift applications up and down to decide how you want things opened. Also, check the embedding tab, this will determine if the files are previewed in Konqy or opened up in another program. This has been the same same way since KDE 3, as several people mentioned it on the SuSE list. A badly programmed site that immediately takes you to the download is a little more difficult to deal with and you basically have to let it download to /tmp then move & rename the file to your preferred directory, before leaving your Konq window. Once it displays the file, move it, then you can continue surfing, because if you leave the display, the file is deleted.
