[opensuse-kde] ksysguard does not work after update from OBS KDE:QT44 repository
Hi, I am using openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 and updated QT and KDE with the KDE:QT44 repository from the openSUSE build service. My KDE version is KDE 3.5.7 "release 72.9". After a reboot the ksysguard applet stopped displaying the CPU load and memory usage. I had the same behavior on a different Computer running openSUSE 10.3 i586 after including that repository, doing the update, and reboot. When starting the application KDE System Guard I am getting the error message: "Connection to localhost has been lost". It pops up as a new message box in intervals, so I have to hurry to close them all in order to be able to shut down the application again. In /var/log/messages I am seeing this warning related to KDE System Guard: Jul 22 11:19:39 StCloud ksysguard[22404]: *** WARNING *** The programme 'ksysguard' uses the Apple Bonjour compatiblity layer of Avahi. Jul 22 11:19:39 StCloud ksysguard[22404]: *** WARNING *** Please fix your application to use the native API of Avahi! Jul 22 11:19:39 StCloud ksysguard[22404]: *** WARNING *** For more information see <http://0pointer.de/avahi-compat?s=libdns_sd&e=ksysguard> I followed the provided link and it says to set the variable $AVAHI_COMPAT_NOWARN to 1 in order to get rid of the warning. My question is now whether getting rid of the warning really solves the problem? Thanks for your help. Do you have kdebase4-workspace-ksysguardd installed now? Do you have kdebase3- runtime installed? do you have kdebase3-ksysguardd installed? Sorry for the late reply. I did overlook your answer. Short after my post I got some updates from the KDE:QT44 installation and suddenly it worked again. Now after a recent update it stopped working again. Dirk Mueller wrote: ...

Hmm, I did not realize that with the KDE:QT44 did come packages from KDE4. To answer your question, I have installed: kdebase4-runtime kdebase3-ksysguard But no kdebase4-workspace-ksysguard. This is the output I am getting from the rpm -q command:
rpm -qa kdebase* kdebase3-session-3.5.7-87.5 kdebase3-kdm-3.5.7-87.5 kdebase3-3.5.7-87.5 kdebase3-nsplugin-3.5.7-87.5 kdebase3-32bit-3.5.7-87.5 kdebase3-ksysguardd-3.5.7-87.5 kdebase4-runtime-3.93.0.svn712052-11 kdebase3-SuSE-10.3-152 kdebase3-samba-3.5.7-87.5 kdebase3-beagle-3.5.7-87.5
So maybe the best solution would be to remove that repository again? I only added QT 4.4 for the merkaartor application that I was using, but think that it does not justify the trouble it is causing me now. Is there a simple way to remove the changes done by adding the KDE:QT44 repository? When I do a zypper rr KDE:QT44, is there a simple way with zypper to remove the packages that came with it? Thanks for your help.
