[opensuse-kde] [KDE:KDE4:Playground] Why ist virtuoso disabled for openSUSE 11.2?
Hello list, I would like to try the virtuoso backend for soprano. It is together with virtuoso itself in the Build Service project KDE:KDE4:Playground. But it is disabled for openSUE 11.2 repositories. What is the reason? That is in the UNSTABLE repository. ;-) I know that. But there are also packages in Playground, and there they build for openSUSE_11.1_KDE4_Factory and so on. But the openSUSE 11.2 build targets are disabled there. I believe 11.2 build is suspended pending gold issue which is imminent. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Might be, but all the other software is building for it. :) Best greetings Buschmann ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- openSUSE Member - de.opensuse.org Sys-Op http://en.opensuse.org/User:Buschmann23 http://en.opensuse.org/How_to_Participate http://en.opensuse.org/Geeko_wants_you!

Hi Buschmann, I guess this is my fault. For the soprano* and virtuoso packages the default is set to not build the package. So when the 11.2 repo's where added, it could the default assigned and I never checked :-( I have just enabled the build for the 11.2 repo's and also updated the package to the latest version. It should work with KDE 4.3, however be aware that it is of course based on KDE trunk. Regards Raymond

is there a reason why we have a duplicate soprano version in KDE:KDE4:Playground? Is this needed for anything else? I don't think its a good idea as it is not the version that KDE was build against, so it could cause more trouble than it is worth. What is it needed for, exactly? I just put this version in KDE:KDE4:Playground as that a couple of people wanted to start playing around with the updated virtuoso backend.

As indicated above, it is only required if somebody wants to try out the latest virtuoso backend. It was indicated by Trueg that it should be compatible with KDE4.3 and this would allow people to start testing the new and updated virtuoso backend. With KDE 4.4 this could/would be the new soprano backend and replace redland. KDE4 Unstable is build against this newer soprano. Regards Raymond

Yes, and I have updated it yesterday to current svn and enabled the build for openSUSE 11.2. It works quite good on my machine with virtuoso backend and KDE 4.3.3 on openSUSE 10.2. Virtuoso feels much faster than sesame2. :) I think Playground is a playground... ;-) Best greetings Buschmann ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- openSUSE Member - de.opensuse.org Sys-Op http://en.opensuse.org/User:Buschmann23 http://en.opensuse.org/How_to_Participate http://en.opensuse.org/Geeko_wants_you!

Well, it was more intendended for unstable applications. Otherwise you could also submit a kernel inside which crashes your filesystem or an X server which is not allowing to start your desktop at all. Unstable core desktop packages should be in :UNSTABLE projects. bye adrian -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE Linux Products GmbH email: adrian@suse.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Ok, then it would be better, when Raymond or someone like me creates a subproject in his home area for that and removes it from Playground. As that I am the initiator of this package, I will create a separate subproject in my home area for this one. I will let you know through this mailing list the details. As Indicated, I have created a subproject and I am building here the packages Soprano, Soprano-backend-sesame, Soprano-backend-virtuoso, virtuoso and iodbc. The packages mentioned above are based on the svn snapshots in UNSTABLE and I will try to keep them as much as possible up-to-date with weekly snapshots. As already mentioned in this thread, using these packages are at you own risk as most likely your KDE 4.3.x has not been built based on this soprano version. Indications however are that the soprano package is backward compatible, but of course could cause breakage at a certain moment. The main project can be found at : http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home://rwooninck://UNSTABLE_Playgr... and it is just a matter of selecting the correct subdirectory for your setup below this one.
