I'm seeing varying results Nico. There is certainly something up but I can't replicate it 100% My box that I first noticed it on, the problem cleared up with a logout and back. But I know this had already been done since updates, so I know it wasn't anything to do with me needing to do that. Try to figure out what is blocking to build the context menu, and whether the contents of the selection affects this. My gut feeling is it's the new- in-4.10 Activities submenu, as I could imaging this is making a blocking call to kactivitymanagerd to build its submenu. You could verify this by seeing if you make a dbus call to kactivitymanagerd when the dolphin context menu has hung. I use openSUSE 12.2 with KDE 4.10 (KDE:/Extra/KDE_Release_410_openSUSE_12.2 repo). When I right click to even one file, it often takes ~8 s to pop up the context menu. Regardless type of the file. I remember there was a bug report about that one, but i can't seem to find it (i even had linking plugin disabled for some time as a workaround). But the issue has not re-appeared for a long time. It also might help if one disables KAMD's watching of dolphin (kcm_activities).

I couldn't replicate that issue on openSUSE 12.3 Beta 1 KDE 4.10.00r1 same user. I tested with 125 picture files (763MiB) with no freezes. Any chances some packages did not upgrade on your system or debris from old KDE making jokes there? Instead, I noticed another stuff. If I try to make that operation from another activity not still running or associated to those files: Openning pictures from Dolphin without running Photo Activities made crashing KDE Activity Manager once. It doesn't happened twice. I did report this but now I'm thinking my issue was connected to a failed nvidia update which fell back to nouveau - and I hadn't noticed. I don't know if it is same or related bug, but very often when I launch Dolphin (for example opening flash disc, desktop folder, ...), it takes very long time (even 1 minute), in meantime application window is grey and finely upon panel with documents folder (I have 2 panels in Dolphin and "Documents" as basic folder) I see error "It is not possible to launch the process It is not possible to communicate with application klauncher: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)." Nepomuk is running, if it matters. See also http://susepaste.org/74197872 Same behaviour under openSUSE 12.2 with KDE 4.9 as well as 4.10. It doesn't happen every time, but very, very often and it's soooooooo annoying... Anyone else experiencing same problems? Have a nice day! No, not seeing this. Have you tested a new user?
With new user it seems to by fine. Might be it has something to do with Nepomuk? If the delay is caused by I-don't-know-what related to Nepomuk, then I'd be logic, that with empty Nepomuk DB the bug doesn't show up...
