[opensuse-kde] Any one know when the bug in Sysinfo module will be addressed in openSUSE 11.2 - 11.3
Dear fellow listmates, We've been having a problem with a bug in the Sysinfo module and all Nvidia information blobs. The result is that the Driver information shown is incorrect or undefined. All 11.2 Milestones, RC1, RC2 right through to the openSUSE 11.2 GM had a broken Sysinfo module. Now, when I reinstalled openSUSE 11.1 it showed a working example of Sysinfo module when it came to showing the correct NVIDIA driver. In openSUSE 11.2, I opened my konsole and typed the following: glxinfo | grep -i OpenGL The following is the result that should appear in the Sysinfo module under Display Info minus the text string below: OpenGL vendor string and OpenGL render string OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 8600 GTS/PCI/SSE2 OpenGL version string: 3.2.0 NVIDIA 190.42 The final result in Sysinfo should show the following: Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Model: GeForce 8600 GTS/PCI/SSE2 Driver: 3.2.0 NVIDIA 190.42 Your help would be very much appreciated. Dear fellow listmates,
We've been having a problem with a bug in the Sysinfo module and all Nvidia information blobs.
In openSUSE 11.2, I opened my konsole and typed the following:
glxinfo | grep -i OpenGL
The following is the result that should appear in the Sysinfo module under Display Info minus the text string below:
OpenGL vendor string and OpenGL render string
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 8600 GTS/PCI/SSE2 OpenGL version string: 3.2.0 NVIDIA 190.42
The final result in Sysinfo should show the following:
Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Model: GeForce 8600 GTS/PCI/SSE2
Driver: 3.2.0 NVIDIA 190.42
Your help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks for pointing that. I'll try to fix it but I don't think fix will hit 11.2. I believe it's not important bug fix so probably won't be put in update repository. -- Rafał -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

That would be great. If it would not be available in the update repo could we see it in the 4.3.4 repository? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Fwiw. Are you seeing something similar to the following in Display Info: Display Info Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Model: GeForce 8600 GTS/PCI/SSE2 Driver: 3.2.0 NVIDIA 190.42 Which driver did you install? Which graphics card are you using? Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

This picture should answer all the questions I think: http://www.opensuse-guide.org/tmp/sysinfo.png The driver is the 173.xxx KMP from nvidia repo. True, I have xorg.conf because I use a dual head setup with tv-out. Guess that's it then. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

So, if you installed the earlier NVIDIA-Linux 173*.run driver, then the number should appear next to Driver not nvidia. It kinda' defeats the purpose of having a "Driver" field. Either way, because the generic " nv " driver does not include a driver version, hence the " nv " appears in the "Driver" field. If you really want to find the full name of the graphics card and the driver version, just open konsole or xterm. Type in: glxinfo | grep -i OpenGL The results show what should appear in sysinfo. The problem with this is that it has never been addressed - a number of people have reported it in Novell Bugzilla since Milestone 1 last Summer. Is that the purpose of Bugzilla? Cheers!
