I had similar problems recently when i upgraded my KDE 3.3 to 3.4. I was fooled by the new default behavior that KWallet is used to store POP & SMTP passwords. This yielded several error messages and i think that the one you mention below was among them (forgot the details, though). After some fiddling with the POP & SMTP server settings all is well now again on my box, i.e. upon KMail startup i have to supply the KWallet passord and KMail then has all necessary credentials to fetch & send mail. So i would suggest that you review all your server settings, especially the passwords and if the checkbox "save password" is checked correctly. I also had to switch off "SMTP server requires authentication" which i (think i) had accidentally switched on while i was initially confused. HTH, Robert
