how to type diacritical marks using a modifier key?
Hallo KDE List, On my laptop when it was running Windows I could hold down a modifier key to type special accent marks. For example, the right-Alt key and "p" produces the German "oe" (o with two dots over it). How can I do this in KDE/Linux? I've looked at the keyboard language settings, but to no avail. ALt-p produces nothing... :-( -Kevin -- Kevin Pfeiffer International University Bremen

Kevin, Try R-shift, R-ctrl and the left windows key. That will set the action into motion and then certain key combinations will give you your special characters. Like an upside down question mark is: shift-question mark-question mark ¿ or an e with the dots ë over it. There is a complete list here: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/iso8859-1/Compose You can also change your "compose" key combo here: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/Xmodmap or you may have one in your home directory $HOME/.Xmodmap Patrick --- KMail v1.4.3 --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.0 --- Registered Linux User #225206
¡Hola! ê e ó õ ¿ ö ö ë æ é ë Patrick, I "wünsche dir" a Thousand Thank-Yous!¡! You don't know how many times I've asked this question and looked through the SuSE database. And it was so easy. Before I had picked up bits and pieces, but not a simple "this is how it works now; now you see how you can change it" answer. (Of course I had never heard of a three-key combination as modifier, so that didn't help. But your answer has me up and running in diacritical style. Thanks again, Kevin Patrick writes:
