Looks good with its Suse 10.1 and KDE 3.5.1 - not so cleaver after you've installed KDE 3.5.3 and the splash screen still says KDE 3.5.1.

This will not be fixed. Change the splash or do you know Gimp/Krita? :-) Bye, Steve

No, i don't.

I didn't think it would. SUSE seems to be losing its professional touch since being part of Novell.

Interesting comment, but please tell me, when was kdebase3-SuSE ever updated in the supplementary packages. I'm sorry if it upsets you, but it's just never happened, no matter who owned the company

I think that if you put a Version number on display, it should reflect the correct version.

First of all, it does display the correct version, if you run the version for which the splash screen was created. If you update the underlying version, why isn't it your responsibility to update or change the splash screen as well? It's not hard, just a few clicks in the Appearence section of the KDE control center. If you don't run the suse official packages anymore, don't run the suse official theme either, if it offends you Secondly, the point I was making was that you said this was something new, which it clearly isn't. It's always been like this. The suse theme is in kdebase3-SuSE, and that has never ever ever been updated in the supplementaries, so calling it a loss of professional touch, or a loss of anything, when in fact it's just status quo, is BS. Argue if you like that you think the suse theme should be updated in step with the updated unofficial base packages. I might even agree with you, in some cases. But try to keep the BS to a minimum

Maybe this discussion could be avoided in the future if the theme would use an svg (1 file instead of several for different resolutions), that could, via JavaScript, grab the current KDE version number and display it. KDE4? Just an idea. ;) Cheers, Leen
Hallo Well, I decided to see what I can do to "modify" the image in question. It wasn't so difficult, given that there was already a number 3 there, so just some eraser work and a copy-paste and "voila" ;-) I'm no artist nor I have experience on images and/or image editing programs, but the image looks nice to me, hope you like it, you can grab it from here: http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/6220/title9go.png P.S.: The image is for KDE 3.5.3 -- -- El mundo apesta y vosotros apestais tambien --
I prefer the Dos 2.1 solution to the screen splash issue. When the splash screen comes up, quickly write a post it note with KDE 3.5.3 on it and attach it to the center of the monitor. After the desktop comes up then remove it until the next reboot. Magically the computer software version number is always correct. Ralph Ellis

That splash-screen was never changed before so there is no loss. In fact you can disable it in kcontrol and use the genuine KDE-splash, if you do not like the incorrect version-number. I agree that it would be nice to have a fitting splash, but this is really the least important bit of KDE and not worth any kind of argument about Novell having a bad influence on SuSE, come on, it's just a splash-screen. In fact, I would like to see KDE start up that quickly, that a splash-screen is not needed anymore. :) Sven

It's nothing to do with whether I dislike or like the splash - it's just not correct, if you show a version number it should show the correct version - it just shows a lack of thought - just like the planning of the ZMD integration. - Hey, lets put a Gnome app into the KDE environment and completely disregard our concerns for HIG - it lacks professionalism. Am I expecting too much?
Hi, If you don't know how to fix this yourself, you could put in a request on the forum at http://www.kde-look.org Someone may see this as a challenge, and before you know it, you may have a set of SuSE 10.1 KSplash for KDE 3.5.3, 3.5.4, 3.5.X... in all sorts of weird colours. Its a SuSE/Novell design issue - it doesn't worry me too much but it looks they have done half a job.
