[opensuse-kde] Desktop effects stopped working since nvidia driver upgrade
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I am running KDE 4.14.3 on openSUSE 13.2 with twin monitors. Yesterday I upgraded the nvidia graphics drivers from 340.58 to 340.65, following which the KDE Desktop Effects stopped working. I have 8 desktops, which used to rotate beautifully around the desktop cube :-( sudo zypper lr [...] 3 | download.nvidia.com-opensuse|nVidia Graphics Drivers | Yes | Yes [...] I should get the drivers from the download.nvidia.com-opensuse repository, but following the upgrade, YaST tells me that the 340.65 drivers that are installed came from build.suse.de/home:michal-m Two questions: How did YaST decide to switch to a repository that I am not subscribed to? How do I revert to the 340.58 drivers (preferably from the nvidia repository)? YaST did not switch to anything. The packages in the nvidia repo have been built by a different person this time, in a different home: repo on OBS. This should not cause any problems if you take care that all of the packages are updated and the same version. Background: the packages are not built by nvidia. They are built by some person from openSUSE (with OBS), and then sent to nvidia who copy them to their server. It's done this way, because it's not allowed to host them on OBS or include them in the distribution because of legal/license issues. You might want to file a bug report at http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/ about this vendor change though. Probably they should better use some generic vendor (like "nvidia" e.g.) when building the packages...
How do I revert to the 340.58 drivers (preferably from the nvidia repository)?
You can't. The packages are not available any more. To your actual problem: As mentioned already, check that you updated all 5 packages, and check that you have the correct kmp packages matching your kernel. It should work then. If not, please provide the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and a list of all installed nvidia and kernel packages: rpm -qa | egrep "nvidia|kernel" Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
