what happens when you su to root in a terminal and run /sbin/yast2 or can you even su to root?
su works, I can su to root and run yast2 without problems...
can you start *anything* as root?
Yes, I can use su in konsole.
could you ever run the commands you site?
I had this issue some time ago with openSUSE 12.3, I think I logged off KDE, logged in again and the problem was gone. The issue occured again a few days ago. At the weekend I installed openSUSE 13.1 and kdesu just worked. Yesterday it stopped working.
So you logged out and back in to test ??
You tried in konsole and xterm: su - and then: yast2
Honestly, when you have succeeded before and offer that information, why wouldn't you try again or at least report that it didn't work. All pertinent information narrows the problem.
Patrik, could you look at this bug? https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=865337 I think you are hit by the very same problem. When this happens, try Alt+F2 to see if kdesu of the user is there (it hangs) then kill it with the terminal and PID. Log out, log in If it still doesn't work you will have to use another user to login and from terminal you kill the two processes of pam and system.d mentioned. I would expect then it will work. For me at least these two processes block everything when some crash (like plasma multimonitor support occurs and are sanitized only when you shut down these user processes that persist to logout. If you see that this is the case, could you report back on bugzilla? Would be nice. Hope that helps. --- Alle Postfächer an einem Ort. :^) I do not have or see this on my systems.

Tks, but I am not the OP, nor the originator of this thread. I merely tried to determine a solution to *his* problem. I do not see it on my *frequently* updated system, but I do correct deleted/replaced processes. It really appears he has a shotgun but only a permit for spit-wads :^). -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
