[opensuse-kde] AmaroK takes a weeK to build list
I have about 350GB of music files, mostly flac and some mp3. On 10.3, amaroK took a couple of hours to index them (build the collection list), but on 11 with KDE 3.5.9 it's been running for three days and has got to 55%. Using the sqlite database. Should this job really take that long? I want to listen to the music, not watch the busy icon :( -- Bob Registered Linux User #463880 GPG-FP: A6C1 457C 6DBA B13E 5524 F703 D12A FB79 926B 994E openSUSE 11.0, Kernel 2.6.25.5-1.1-default, KDE 3.5.9 Intel Celeron 2.53GB, 2GB DDR RAM, nVidia GeForce 7600GS --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

You are not alone. It tooks me much more time than in openSUSE 10.3 to build the collection list in both of my computers, desktop and laptop. I suggest file a bug report on bugzilla.novell.com and let us know its bug ID. -- Regards, Carlos Goncalves --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Bug 404239. Now, could I suggest you vote for it, please. Helps to bring it to the attention of the bugbusters ;) -- Bob Registered Linux User #463880 GPG-FP: A6C1 457C 6DBA B13E 5524 F703 D12A FB79 926B 994E openSUSE 11.0, Kernel 2.6.25.5-1.1-default, KDE 3.5.9 Intel Celeron 2.53GB, 2GB DDR RAM, nVidia GeForce 7600GS --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I see it already exists as KDE bug 161722, which refers to amarok 1.4.8. I've added my comments re 1.4.9 and given it 5 votes there. Which requires a bit more setting up than SQLite. Accepting the default settings (hostname:localhost, port:3306, database:amarok) and entering my own system username and password results in nothing happening when select Rescan collection :( I'm currently looking at/listening to Aqualung, which did scan my collection in minutes. -- Bob Registered Linux User #463880 GPG-FP: A6C1 457C 6DBA B13E 5524 F703 D12A FB79 926B 994E openSUSE 11.0, Kernel 2.6.25.5-1.1-default, KDE 3.5.9 Intel Celeron 2.53GB, 2GB DDR RAM, nVidia GeForce 7600GS --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Hello, sorry, I've a little bit less of use writing English! I just reorganised my mp3's. System is OpenSuse 10.3 with a lot of additional installation packets! There are 22.595 mp3-Songs and 93,6 GB! It took some time, but not more than an hour! I'm happy that I know since Microsoft DOS 4.0 ( a system with High Security - It didn't run!) to take care of a 0 at the End! Since this time - I'm working with OpenSuse (Former Suse) since the Version 7.2 or 3! I never installed a new Release on a professionel used System bevore 4 weeks had gone! Sometimes I had a seperate PC to play with the system! Reading the lists from KDE and the German OpenSuse I think that's something is going wrong! I think, you (The Team - Planning and Creating) is in a Race against MS! Take Time, take a Breath! Not the way is the aim! At last let me say One: The first Computer I was working with was a WANG! In German we said "Hast du einen Wang, wird dir Bang!" In English it would be "Having a WANG you are in fear". But it never was a race to have the NEWEST! Give me a chance to tell the people, as I did it over years - with a lot of success -, that a Linux System with KDE ist better than MS! I'm just thinking about to give to NGO's and schools in Brandeburg (that's just near Berlin) a hint to change over to Linux! But my Arguments are at this time at a loss of themselves! Is there somebody to argue or to think about my arguments? With best regards from the "Zeuthener See" and Zeuthen, a township that gives a chance for a wonderful HOLIDAY TIME! Best wishes for the weekend and ALL sucess for a OpenSuse 11.1 and KDE 4.1! [snipped other stuff about openSUSE/KDE trying to compete with MS] I take your point, Wilfried, but this problem with Amarok is not enough to make me re-install 10.3. I'm pleased with 11.0 so far, especially the package management improvements. I think the information that it is a performance regression between 10.3 and 11.0 indicates where to look. the code tree difference very small, anyone who can find the sql change in there that is responsible for the slowdown first gets a free cookie (and a beer, if we meet) from me.
