[opensuse-kde] Problem opening Kontact
In opensuse 13.1, KDE 4.11.2, when I attempt tp open kontact it segfaults. Background: Due to a compromised file(s) in the ~/.kde4 folder kontact had to be removed and re-installed. I first used Yast2 for the re-install. Upon attempting to open kontact it displayed a segfault message. I then deleted kontact and re-installed through the online search (http://software.opensuse.org/search) system but had the same results. During both install sessions I also performed a system restart to avoid any other problems. I also logged out and back in of KDE several times. Segfault bug has been reported to bugzilla as bug 861725. Any suggestions or ideas why this is happening? Thanks, Tom -- Never be ashamed to ask for information. Thanks, Tom Tom have a look at bug I reported on Tuesday against Kontact. Maybe related to your problem. I am on later version of KDE from what I can make out.
If kontact is all ready running as process, kontact will not start again under certain conditions. Not sure if this will help you. Reinstalling stuff doesn't fix anything. And reinstalling using software.o.o/search is an exceptionally bad idea, if you're not careful, you might have installed kontact and related packages from an incompatible repo. Why on earth didn't you just (re)install the package with zypper or yast? Besides that you might have messed up your system with incompatible repos/packages. Kontact/akonadi stores a lot of data outside of ~/.kde4/ (~/.local/share/ and ~/.config/akonadi/). If this data is somehow corrupted that could also cause Kontact to crash on startup. Review your configured repositories. And check if Kontact will start for a new user. If it works for a new user, then your settings/data are bad for the first user. If Kontact crashes for the new user also, then you've messed up your installation. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

As stated in my original post (above) I did use Yast2 but it didn't solve the problem.
