[opensuse-kde] kde 4.6, major issues
Howdy all: I have two computers, a desktop and laptop running 11.3, kde 4.5.5, nvidia 256.53 (have to use this driver to avoid the floating point error that causes all clock widgets to crash with kde 4.5). I tried updating both computers to kde 4.6 I used the following repos: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/46/openSUSE_11.3/ http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Extra/KDE_Release_46_openSUSE... Did zypper up on one zypper dup on another to the kde:release:46 repo. Both updates failed big time, and I have reverted back to kde 4.5.x, below are the issues on both computers after the update: 1) No window controls, restore, close minimize, title bar ...... 2) no keyboard input in any window, within kde, kb works fine from tty1 ...... 3) Networkmanager would not load into system tray 4) kde starts on occasion with only the main panel with task bar system tray etc, but black screen I'm assuming plasma has crashed. 5) main panel will not allow changes, even if widgets unlocked, the little upside down like apostrophe does not appear and can not change panel 6) if using the newer nvidia driver 260.19.36, plasma loops and generates numerous seg fault messages. Below are a few things I tried before reverting back to kde 4.5.5 1) remove /tmp/kde-user temp directory, user of course replaced with my user name 2) deleted .kde4 folder, for logged in user 3) update to nvidia current drivers (this did nothing but bring back the floating point errors), then back to nvidia 256.53 driver. Any ideas suggestion greatly appreciated, Thanks, Tony -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
Tony, have you seen any issue during the update? Have you tried to use the KDF repos http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Distro:/Factory/openSUSE_11.3... http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Extra/openSUSE_11.3_KDE_Distr... I am using NVIDIA 260.19.21 with KDE 4.6.0 -- Best Regards gpe On Monday 31 Jan 2011 23:03:35 Tony wrote:

Just a quick note, the floating point exception is only visible under 32bits mainly. I'm using KDF daily, with nvidia 260.19.36, and also tried the new bet 270.18 with no troubles. On 02/01/2011 10:56 AM, gpe wrote:

but 260.19.36 works fine. I am running 32bit, I'm considering going to 64bit. If I do i'll reinstall the system from scratch, assuming that's best way to avoid confusion between 32bit / 64bit. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

There will be no confusion, it will install what was already installed :) -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
