[opensuse-kde] Plasma 5 within openSUSE repositories

Hey all, first, a small announcement for KDE:Unstable:Frameworks users: since today, 'official' Plasma 5 components in mentioned repo are now placed in /usr prefix, so it means they collide with kdebase4-workspace. So, it'll be either-or. Rest of the ported applications and components will soon follow, and they'll also collide with 4.x counterparts. This is done to create 'less artificial' environment, and we can see what needs to be done for next openSUSE release so users can get most painless testing and usage there. Second, the beta2 release is for the most part packaged in KDE:Frameworks5 project (same as above - in /usr), and soon the submissions toward openSUSE:Factory will start. We've started also slightly adjusting packaging of kdebase4-workspace, so the amount of removed components from 4.x world decreases for those that want to try out Plasma5. For 4.x users nothing changes, just a few packages more, as workspace will be splitted in more logical pieces, and applications that require workspace libraries can remain installed. Third; no, Plasma 5 *wont* be default in openSUSE 13.2 ;-) Cheers, Hrvoje

I have tested the plasma next session so far parallel to my normal 4.x - so do you recommend to delete this. I guess workinh on it is not yet recommended , although so far all my company apps worked. Just haven't tested kontact yet as I did not wanted to risk my config.

That might be true but it actually complicates the testing on real desktops because now theonly option to test is in a VM if you only have one desktop available. Not sure how that is supposed to increase the amount of testing.

good.

now i'm a bit confused - can you test on the same maschine as a 4.x session or not?

although I'm very happy with the quality of the betas so far thats probably a good idea and if its just to avaiod a repeat of the 4.0 'Disaster' Thx for your work Stefan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Earlier you'd lose some extra applications (such as kdevelop) due to some libs (wrongly) conflicting. The workspace package has been splitted further to permit coexistence of more 4.x apps. And for your question: at the moment, you have to choose: either the P5 workspace, or the 4.x workspace. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: 6E1A4E79

Thx for the answer - as this is a work maschine, unfortunately Plasma next has to go for the moment :( It will be back as soon as its feasible, as I really liked the Look & Feel and so far it was quite more stable then expected. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Can a live Plasma Next ISO be created so that we can install it on a separate drive? Testing virtually is limited compared to real hardware. -- Cheers!
