I've just upgraded to KDE 3.4. It no longer seems possible to use the Windows key by itself as a shortcut key. I'm trying to emulate MS Windows and assign the Windows key to show the Popup Launch menu (default assignment is ALT-F1). The shortcut now requires the windows key plus some other key. Is there not any way to get just the windows key to pop up the Popup Launch Menu? Thanks William

Great thanks. The scheme uses and works with CTRL-ESCAPE for the Popup Launch Menu which I'm happy with. Still shame the Windows key by itself still doesn't seem to be supported. William Webb wrote:

I found this on debin news group Hey, I finally found success in configuring this. Use the Control Center => Regional & Accessibility => Keyboard Layout => Xkb Options to "Enable xkb options" and "Third Level Choosers" "Press any of the Winkeys to choose 3rd level" and hit "Apply". Then, go to "Keyboard Shortcuts" => Global Shortcuts and under "Panel" "Popup Launch Menu" choose customize and just hit the "Win" key. On mine, it labels it "ISO_Level3_Shift", instead of "Win" key. Now, hit "Apply" in the lower right corner. -- Hans hanskrueger@adelphia.net

Wow. Thanks! I did find that the left Win key is called ISO_Level3_Shift while the right one is Multi_key, and both must be attached if you want the KDE menu activated using either Win key. How long has this been possible? Where did the belief that it was impossible originate? I know it's been stated here, at least once in the past year.

Works fine, but then I can’t use the Windows key in combinination with other keys. For example to move a window to the next desktop, I use Win+Tab. Isn’t there any way to use the Windows key for both “standalone key” _and_ in comination with other keys? -- Candid Dauth Berthold-Hupmann-Straße 58 88400 Biberach an der Riss Deutschland http://cdauth.de/ mailto:cdauth@cdauth.de
