Yes I did, everything is normal and has the right settings. As I mentioned, all I need to do is reactivate apply in the sound control panel area and it works. No additional action is needed, no changing of sound levels. Really weird I think.
Maybe someone knows which scripts are called when the apply button is pressed?
I think what happens is simply that artsd is started (or restarted) with the new settings. Did you check if artsd is running when you log in?
Yes, it does run. That was the first think I looked into. So when I kill artsd (killall artsd) and restart it, sound works, but I get the following error message: ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:494:(snd_pcm_hw_start) SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_START failed: Broken pipe Killing artsd again: sound keeps working and artsd started itself again. In order to get sound, I need to kill artsd and restart it. Is this something that has to do with the error message? I actually don't know what it means. Any help is appreciated. -- Sabine
