[opensuse-kde] Versioning question
I have a question on Kaffeine 1.2.2-28.3 which is the available version in the repos. I found having 1.2.2-48.x (don't remember reliably the subnumber) as orphaned installed. That because I had to lock it, because when having Extra Repo, I had suddenly a non funktional update from version 2.x installed (no dvb-t and dvb-s). I am puzzled about the versions. Have there been withdrawel of packages and what was the rational of these. It appears kaffeine is now not in Extra any more. Do I have to expect issues because 1.2.2.-48 was installed before? Would't it be korrekt to warn when packages are version-changed to avoid confusion? Last: will the 2 version (I looked on the site) will be able to reproduce dvt-t/s etc again or do we have to expect this to be "feature amputated"? Because astonishingly on the website they state the support for dvb-t should work. What will be the default version with 42.2? Thanks. --- Die Bundesliga hat begonnen! Version 2.x requires dvb5, which is not available in Leap. The 1.2 version included in Leap 42.1 (and 42.2) should work fine though. I would recommend to install that.

No, because it has been upgraded to 2.0.x in KDE:Extra, which is the KF5 port and uses VLC instead of Xine. But because of the missing DVB support (in Leap), we decided to wipe out the already built binaries. That's why it's not available in KDE:Extra for Leap at all currently. Having the 1.2.2 version in KDE:Extra doesn't really make sense anyway, because it's exactly the same as the one included in the standard repos, and there won't be any updates any more. I plan to submit a kaffeine4 package to KDE:Extra, which will be (and stay) the 1.2.2 version. Haven't had time to do that yet, though.

No.

You want us to send out EMails for any updates/changes we do in KDE:Extra? Sorry, but that's just not feasible.

Not in Leap 42.1, because dvb5 is not available. And for 42.2, the dvb5 has been declined as well. The 1.2.2 version should work fine though, as mentioned. PS, to explicitly answer the last question: Am Sonntag, 18. September 2016, 15:55:25 schrieb stakanov@freenet.de:

42.2 will ship with the KDE4 and Xine based kaffeine 1.2.2, like the previous releases. DVB support should work fine therefore, provided that you install libxine2- codecs (from Packman) to be able to play back restricted codecs (DVB streams normally use patent-encumbered codecs like MPEG2, which are not supported by the crippled openSUSE libxine2 for legal reasons, no change there though).
