Hello all, I am running openSUSE 12.1 with KDE 4.9.00 "release 558". Since, as far back as KDE 4.8, I have been having a very peculiar issue with my volume. It increases automagically! I notice this more when notification sounds occur whilst something else is playing (e.g. VLC, kaffiene, etc.). For instance, when I move a window a sound plays at the start and at the end of the move. When the end of the move sound is about to play, the volume had increased (almost to 100% sometimes) and plays really loud. This also happens when the breakpoint notification sound is played in KDevelop4. Most of the time this happens when I am watching/listening to a podcast in VLC/Kaffiene. The podcast is playing at a low volume (just for background noise) and when an event notification sound plays, the volume jump to 100% (or very close) and plays extremely loud. I've jumped a few times! I have tried to lower the volume for the "Event Sounds" but it only sticks for a little while. I'm not sure if this is a bug or perhaps something to do with how each application has its own volume? If it's the latter, is there some way I could make it so there is only one volume for the entire system? Any ideas? Whenever you experience inexplicable audio problems it's most likely related to PulseAudio. You can try and disable PulseAudio with 'setup-pulseaudio --disable' and see if it works better for you. If it doesn't help you can just turn the stuff back on the same way. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I think that did the trick. When I disabled pulseaudio, I thought it didn't work. I hadn't relogin into KDE. After a cold reboot, it looks like that volume-per-app has been disabled! Thank you!
