[opensuse-kde] KDE4 and kwin effects
I installed KDE4 on openSuSE 10.3 from KDE4 repository. It works, however when I try to set up kwin OpenGL effects, kwin crashes with a message about missing composite extension. Composite is enabled and working properly, since I can use compiz (nvidia drivers also installed properly). Is there a trick for KDE4 and compositing? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

This looks like compositing is not enabled.

It is, works on kde 3.5.8. Here is my xorg.conf: http://files.myopera.com/kriko/files/xorg.conf don't know why kde4 is claiming that I don't have compositing. On 11/2/07, Lubos Lunak <l.lunak@suse.cz> wrote:

Not disabled in X, disabled in KWin. How can I enable compositing in kwin then? On 11/5/07, Lubos Lunak <l.lunak@suse.cz> wrote:

In preferences. However the only way to get that specific message is either configure no rendering mode and have $KWIN_COMPOSE set, both of which seem unlikely for you *shrug*. -- Lubos Lunak KDE developer -------------------------------------------------------------- SUSE LINUX, s.r.o. e-mail: l.lunak@suse.cz , l.lunak@kde.org Lihovarska 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 972 190 00 Prague 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http//www.suse.cz --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
So what can I do to get the bling working? :) I tried to enable OpenGL rendering and relogin into KDE4, but that didn't work. Btw, I'm regullary updating KDE4 so I have todays packages installed. On 11/5/07, Lubos Lunak <l.lunak@suse.cz> wrote:

I have no idea. The error messages as you posted them don't make any sense to me.

Yes, kwin_composite is broken since just before beta3 (at least in suse packages) it was working before that. I have tested it on 2 machines and asked several other people to do so. It may work if you select xrender instead of opengl compositing, but it has less functionality. -- Benjamin Weber --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
