on KDE:/Distro:/Factory i upgraded from 4.6.4 -> 4.6.5. immediately afterwards konqueror started to misbehave (another post). instead of trying to figure this out i continued upgrading, to 4.7rc1. this konqueror problem disappeared, and everything else, including akonadi migration, went well. except strigi & virtuoso, unfortunately, those don't work. constantly (mis-)using 2 out of 4 CPUs and more, for hours until i switch them off. if nobody else notices this, there's probably some mix-up in my nepomuk/strigi related packages or configuration. i have been fiddling around with those, also using additional repos for some time, and while things were working under 4.6, there might have been errors or such that didn't show. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

A patch was applied and a new kdebase4-runtime package is available. nepomuk devs were really quick and Ismail even quicker in applying it to the buildservice's package. now that was quick. with the new runtime strigi/nepomuk runs with little CPU load & is actually indexing files. seems to spend quite a bit of time w/o getting above 3 files in the index, and email address auto-completion doesn't work in kmail2 (yet?), but these things may take a little time to sort themselves out... another strange occurence, which i've seen during earlier KDE upgrades, is that "konsole --background-mode," which can be called and hidden with <F12> by default, insisted on showing up vertically maximized, even though there was no window rule for it. after defining a window rule it decided to appear somewhere outside the visible desktop, but finally, after deleting that window rule again, it works as expected. small annoyance, something to do with default configuration of konsole or plasma-whatever, i believe. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I see that it's usage is excessive and minimized a lot of it by: akonadictl stop akonadictl start usage is still more that expected but considerably less. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Likely means you're using an external Postgres server and forgot to configure it properly or changed the internal postgres config file in postgres.conf, standard_conforming_strings must be 'on' whichever case your in Christophe

the standard_confirming_strings is necessary (which, btw, is *not* the default yet), why not just issue this: set standard_confirming_strings = 'true'; at the start of every session or transaction, and obviate the need for someone to change a system-wide parameter for nepomuk to work... -- Jon -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Indeed, the old qtgtl only supports llvm 2.6 which is stone age old, new one supports up to 2.9 but that doesn't work with gcc 4.6 either so I am trying to port it to llvm3, its compiling up to 70%, I'll see how that does. after initial trouble with akonadi/nepomuk/strigi, which was fixed by a quick release of new kde4libs, i find that things appear to run ok, but don't function anymore. email address auto-complete in kmail2 doesn't work except for recent addresses, even though addressbook resources appear to be recognized & configured ok. when i ran into trouble with strigi/nepomuk initially i deleted the repository and config. files to allow it to start over. since then it doesn't throw errors or system hangs, but after indexing a directory of about 2GB with 8,000+ files, only 14 of them actually made it into the index. this may be due to faulty configuration on my part, somewhere along the line, but i don't find these features useful enough to try to get to the bottom of it. on the other hand, if this happens to others as well and you want to find out why, i wouldn't mind trying to help. in that case i should probably remove everything nepomuk/strigi related from ~/.kde4/* and reinstall all related packages. as i said, for my own sake i wouldn't bother... -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Hopefully it'll be published in KDF soon. Maybe when 4.7.0 is officially released(?). I don't know if there's any repo with 4.7 now. I think KUSC went to 4.8 pre- alpha already.
