KDE3/Konqueror: How to set the expiration intervall for "visited links"
Hi, please see subject. Google and the unsenet groups did not help me. Sorry if this still is a FAQ. My basic problem is that "visited links" seem to expire after about 24h in konqueror. This is about two week two early for me :-) Although I looked pretty hard, I did not find a way to change/specify this behaviour. My system is running SuSE8.0/KDE3, latest online updates. Not FAQ. And it was "hard" to find.

I believe this is it: Open Konqueror Select Window - Show Navigation Panel Select History Tab Right click in History window and select preferences Change URLs newer than [1] and URLs older than [2] to something higher. I think the URL expire limit is only how long to keep them in the history window, it does not affect the coloring. /Stefan

thanks. I have changed the dates to something longer. Maybe that was it. You seem to be right about the expire limit. That is apparently set to 90 days in my setup, which does not reflect the coloring behaviour. Depending of how much internet-a-holic you are, you might also need to increase the "Maximum number of URL's" from 500 something greater. I easily break that in 24h :-) /Stefan

Martin Hi,
just to followup. changeing the "newr than"/"older than" stuff has definitely solved my problem. Not really intuitive, as it talks about fonts. All, I strayed, for a while, into the land of GNOME and Ximian Evolution, but now I'm back with KDE3 and KMail 1.4 (on SuSE 8.0) at my employer, where the mail server is MS Exchange or IMAP. When my filters failed to apply themselves automatically to incoming mail, I found a FAQ that sez: "Why aren't my filters applied to incoming messages of IMAP accounts? Because KMail currently doesn't support this. You should use server-side filtering (ask your admin for how to install filters on the server and in which format), since IMAP is all about managing your emails on the server. Unfortunately, although there exists a mail filter language (Sieve, defined in RFC3028), there is no standardized access protocol for installing or editing server-side Sieve scripts. If such a protocol becomes available in the future, KMail will most probaly include support for it." Of course, my filters worked correctly when I was using Ximian Evolution. Given how pervasive Exchange Server and Outlook are in the corporate environment, I hafta wonder why: a) Ximian thought it important to address Exchange and IMAP, while apparently the Kompany doesn't, so much; b) Ximian figured out how to support IMAP and local filtering (after all, most of us have rather stringent limits on the size of our server-side mailboxes), but the Kompany is unable. Is there more to the issue than meets the eye? For that matter, why should it even matter what server my mail comes from, when LOCAL filters are being applied? It can't be all THAT hard to watch the local inbox and automatically apply filters, can it? Even if the filters were applied on a timed basis (every X minutes) to my KMail inbox, that would be much more convenient than having to regularly use "Edit > Select All Messages" and then "Messages > Apply Filters". Can somebody explain the constraints, please? These guys usually have good reasons for what they do -- or don't do -- and I'd like to understand the issue. Thanks, /kevin

Have patience. IMAP support in KMail is a rather new invention. Hopefully also the filtering will be better after a while. Until it is, why not run Evolution? It works great in KDE. A question about evolution: How do I subscribe to shared folders in Evolution? It does not work in my 1.0.5 version. But it does work in KMail... /Stefan

Someone else will need to answer that. I was jumping back and forth between Linux and Win so often that I never bothered to figure it out. On the rare occasions that I needed to access shared folders, I used Outlook. Sorry. Are you subscribed to the Ximian Users list? ( Users maillist - Users@ximian.com http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/users ) Have you found much to recommend Evo over KMail? /k

Um by "shared folders" do you mean IMAP?

Yeah you can write HTML mails ;) (You couldn't do that when i was using KMail, dunno if you can do it now) It also has a calendar / ToDo lists and about everything that Outlook has.
