Re: [suse-kde] How can I configure kmail to be used as IMAP?
Hi Daniel, you wrote:
IMAP is in no way more complex to set up that POP3.
You have your IMAP server, your username and your password, all three from your provider. You enter that information in your incoming mail setup and you are ready.
That' exactly the thing that I've done. Whenever I try to download any emails from my provider, I get the message "No new mails found" ... Alexander

if i remember correctly for the IMAP mail account you have to be carreful with setting the default mailbox directory: usually this is "Inbox" but could differ from case to case (this "set prefix to folder" in kmail settings).

Well, the folder prefix does not concern the INBOX folder, as this is default in all IMAP servers. If you set the folder prefix wrong, you only cannot see the additionals IMAP folders. Greets, Daniel

Well, then all is okay. There are no _NEW_ mails on the server. Open the IMAP folder on the left and read your mails. What do you want to "download" from your server? Daniel

Well, AFAIK that is not necessarily true. If the mails are filtered on the IMAP-server, kmail (or who/whatever is doing it...) will not look in any subdirectories but only check the inbox on the server. Same thing with POP, which I am using - so actually I am only guessing ;) Gruesse Sven

Hi Sven! Sorry, you are not right. Kmail is a full featured IMAPv4 client which is fully able to scan for all IMAP folders and check their status, too. I use kmail everyday with an server-side filtering IMAP server. The only possibility that mails in other folders are ignored is, when you set the folder prefix wrong, but then the whole bunch of folders is not recognized, only INBOX. Greets, Daniel

hi daniel, oops... so it was indeed a very wild guess. sorry. but as i said: pop3 is not searching server-side-filtered subdirectories for me (suse 8.1, kde3.0, kmail 1.4.3; pop3: gmx). so i am letting this account forward all the mails to another one and have them filtered locally. but i am not talking imap anymore, so i'll better quit. sorry again. gruesse sven
