After mounting in terminal, I can do ls and see the files and directories, but I go into kong to /media/firewire, is shows no files. That is the strange thing about it.
If you can do 'ls /media/firewire' and see the files, and you were able to mount as a user with 'mount /media/firewire', then the fstab, drivers, and so on must all be OK. If your desktop icon isn't working, it's probably just the properties of that which need changing. The permissions must be set right both in the desktop icon, and more importantly on /media/firewire, and in the device tab you must specify the device as it's known in the /dev tree, e.g. /dev/sda1, etc. The mountpoint is informational and can't be changed in the desktop link properties, I assume it reads it off /etc/fstab. If mounting as a user and 'ls /media/firewire' aren't working, then we need to look again.
