[opensuse-kde] Greeter text (+translations)
Hello, Will is sick and will be for at least a week. One of his AIs from the last meeting is redoing of the desktop greeter [1]. The conclusion there was to make the greeter include only basic text and refer people to a folder in Documents for further details. And, because of translation freeze, I'd like to sort this out as soon as possible. There are two problems: 1) the new texts, 2) how do we translate it (since the later we do 1 the more likely we have to do 2 ourselves). For the greeter, I would probably just replace the current third section about build service with one about KDE. I don't see big practical usefulness in having the build service mentioned there, but KDE itself seems to be lacking. So I would make the third section be " KDE KDE is an international technology team that creates Free Software for desktop and portable computing. To find out more about KDE in openSUSE visit the [KDE wiki page][2]. You can also view [introduction to KDE4][3] and [release notes for KDE][4] for this openSUSE version. " That would mean there would be actually nothing in Documents, although I would add an icon to the desktop so that people can actually read the greeter later (they'll first dismiss it without reading anyway). Note that I am talking about the non-Factory greeter that looks like http://ktown.kde.org/~seli/download/greeter.jpg , not the one you may see now if you install some 11.2 milestone, which talks about FATE, translating and whatnot. We possibly should include this development information somehow too, but I don't quite see how. That would mean we need people to write and translate [4]. Since it seems to me we handled [3] for 11.1 quite well, we can probably do this too. Other options, proposals, comments, fixes? One of the options is of course to leave the greeter as it is for 11.2; if there will be no comments, I will just stay with that. If it's just a few lines dropped to translators no later than mid-to-late september, most translators won't mind at all.

Sounds pretty good to me - only I'd probably replace "international technology team" with "very large, global project" or something of that nature. I don't think the word "team" does justice to the tremendous KDE project ;-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
