What's the right way to add new items to the kmenu on 8.2? I've followed the instructions in the support database and in Help, but my new entries don't appear in the menu. However, they do show up in the kmenu editor. Meanwhile, none of the submenus in kmenu are visible from the editor. Is this per normal? Thanks.

wg, When you go into the menu editor, it gives you a complete listing of both the KDE menu and the SuSE menu. Even if you have your settings to show only the SuSE menu, the editor shows both in case you want or need to make changes to both. In order to add new things to the SuSE menu, then select SuSE and expand the view from the list and add your items there. No need to reinvent the wheel, so they just give you the broad view. Thanks. I have both kmenu and the SuSE menu on my panel. When I attempt to edit the kmenu, the SuSE menu appears as a submenu. Now, when I expand kmenu, the "Internet", listing, for example, further expands into four submenus. However, when I similiarly expand the "Internet" section while in the menu editor, those 4 submenus headings do not appear, but submenu headings from other sections of the kmenu (e.g., "terminal applications") do appear. Now, if I add a new menu item under the "Internet" heading and close the menu editor, that new entry does not appear when I expand the kmenu. However, it does appear if I re-open the menu editor.

Ok, what version of SuSE are you using? I remember this happening while using 8.1, but not since I started using 8.2 has it exhibited that behavior. After adding your items to the menu, you could of course restart KDE to "refresh" things, but there's an easier way too. Open a shell and type: kbuildsycoca This will run what should be run anytime KDE changes like this happen. That was the only solution that we came up with to resolve the problem, except of course to update to 8.2! ;o) Be sure you are not putting your items in the "hidden" submenu items too. You can go into Control Center to change the settings to show hidden items, but I am not sure I would do that. Ummm....see above. :-) Flipping the hidden files option has no effect. No go with kbuildsycoca. When I expand the "Internet" kmenu header, these 5 submenu headers appear: Communication, Controlling, Ham-Radio, Tools, and WWW. When I open the menu editor, however, those 5 submenu headers aren't visible. The editor displays two submenu headers under the "Internet" header that appear on the menu under a different header. The item I'm trying to add to the menu displays in the editor, but not on the menu.
