[opensuse-kde] What is causing dolphin to do a slower refresh of the folders on first time start up?
Hello List mates, Has anyone noticed how much slower the folders seem to refresh. When starting dolphin on first time start up, I'm seeing the folders appear white and then turn blue as they are refreshing. We did not see this in earlier version of KDE i.e openSUSE 11.4. I am using an older computer from 2007 with a quad-core Q6600 and 4GB of RAM. Is this a problem with Qt and how can this be fixed? Cheers! The Dolphin Part was completely rewritten for KDE SC 4.8/Dolphin 2.0. And while I too have that cosmetic issue on startup, Dolphin 2 is a gazillion times faster than old Dolphin - saying anything else is just lies. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

No, it is not lies, I noticed a slowdown during the transition to the new rendering engine, especially in the rendering of context menus when multiple files are selected. I was not surprised by slowness during the transition, and once the new rendering system had stabized there was a significant increase in speed, Note, I have some directories with a very large number of files and sub directories. With the release of 4.9.2 (openSUSE 12.1) I again encountered a slowdown in directory listings as well as slowdowns in showing context menus when a large number of files are selected (+200 files). During the short period where it worked exceptionally well I could select as many as 1000 items and still have a very good response with context menus. (not instantaneous, but less than 1 second) Thank you Martin for dismissing Romans post with so little information, your response helped me to consolidate the information that I can use to submit or search for a bug report should I see no improvement in the next release. see ya dh -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I have most problems when starting Dophin. Sometimes it hangs for a while and then it says some general error, that it is not able to load and list the directory. Reload then works fine. Otherwise, there are issues, openSUSE 12.2, KDE 4.9. It's going to be better, but slowly...

I agree. Although it has been rewritten. The slow refresh should never happen. This should be a "Major" bug. When a file manager opens the first time, all of the folders should appear instantly. Microsoft does it, Mac OS X does it. KDE3 still does and earlier KDE4 used to do it. Konqueror has no problem with it. I'll check KDE bugs upstream and the Bugzilla. But something tells me that this has been reported last year or earlier. Cheers! Roman --------------------------------------------------------------- openSUSE -- Get it! Discover it! Sorry, no idea. In YaST you should see Dolphin 4.9.2.-302.1, just as it is here: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/49/openSUSE_12.1/ Built on Oct 1. This is what my Dolphin "About" screen shows: Dolphin Version 2.1 Using KDE Development Platform 4.9.2 "release 511" Use YaST to check your repos and sw installation settings; maybe you're not pulling from Release 49. And did you remember to remove the 12.1 "Updated Apps" KDE repos, which conflict? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
