[opensuse-kde] Another Problem Upgrading Problem, 11.0 to 11.4, back to 11.0
![](https://seccdn.libravatar.org/avatar/91f329af21132d4ebd407ddf4ffa326f.jpg?s=120&d=mm&r=g)
I tried to upgrade from 11.0 to 11.4, failed, and reinstalled 11.0. I had a second hard drive at /home/bob/storage. After I reinstalled KDE didn't see it. Gwenview did see it until I pointed it to a directory in the primary drive. After that, it didn't see it. Here is my fstab: bob@linux-boh7:~> mount /dev/sda2 on / type ext3 (rw,acl,user_xattr) proc on /proc type proc (rw) sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw) debugfs on /sys/kernel/debug type debugfs (rw) udev on /dev type tmpfs (rw) devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,mode=0620,gid=5) /dev/sda3 on /home type ext3 (rw,acl,user_xattr) /dev/sdb1 on /home/storage type reiserfs (rw) fusectl on /sys/fs/fuse/connections type fusectl (rw) securityfs on /sys/kernel/security type securityfs (rw) none on /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type binfmt_misc (rw) Is the problem that sdb1 is reiserfs? How can I change that? Or can I reinstall 11.0 in such a way that it will see the files on sdb1? More info: I can see /home/bob/storage and can put files there, but can't see the directories that I had there. Please help. I had a lot of data there. /home/bob/storage is below /home which is ext3 according to above. /home/storage is reiserfs Both should not matter if you can see files on it or not - except you told the installation procedure to reformat it and therefore remove all data on it.
Is the problem that sdb1 is reiserfs?
Don't think so.
How can I change that?
you can not change a filesystem type except when reformatting the whole partition, which means: losing data.
Or can I reinstall 11.0 in such a way that it will see the files on sdb1?
sdb1 is there. You showed it above. When there is no data on it, then you probably removed it. What do you see when you do ls -l /home/storage (your reiserfs on /dev/sdb1) or ls -l /home/bob ?

Cheap advise : next time you want to do a somewhat unsupported upgrade 11.0 to 11.4 is a big jump you should really try first a live cd to check that all your previously working hardware will still be supported. You can also use that live, to backup data on a no more bootable system -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Ambassador GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
