I think we should have this discussion on the opensuse-kde@opensuse.org list :). Alexander Naumov did some work with KDE 3 knetworkmanager, perhaps he wants to maintain it going forward in KDE:KDE3 with you. Backporting old NM would break very quickly due to newer kernel versions and the removal of HAL in newer distros. It would be better to fix NetworkManager-kde (or even use the KDE 4 version).
