Double-click a text file in Konqueror to open it in Kate
Now, whenever I hit a text file in Konq, it displays internally. I want to disable this and instead have Konq load Kate with the file. What do I do? Where do I go? -- Shriramana Sharma http://samvit.org (o- Penguin #395953 //\ running on ancient Indian wisdom V_/_ and modern computing efficiency

1. Control Center->KDE Components->File Associations 2. Enter the file extension in the search box (e.g. txt) 3. The Known Types should be: text->plain 4. Click the Embedding tab on the right side 5. Pick: "Show file in separate viewer" Enjoy, Alvin -- Please reply to the list.

In kde this is due to a file association - option go to kde's controlcenter (can also be found via konquerors options) navigate to the kde components open the file associations type 'txt' (or the file association you want to change) in the search field click on type 'text' and say you want to see it in an external viewer for all types below type text (also /html !). else choose for subtype 'plain' and in the second tab (i believe 'embedding') choose for an external viewer. go to 'plain' to change the order so 'kate' is the chosen favorite for text/plain (i prefer kwrite because it is simpler) save. It should work when you reopen konqueror. It is nt as difficult as it looks. I often do the same for pdf's. Good luck, Peter
