Looks like I'm running "radeon". But I'm not sure. According to Xorg.0.log both "radeon" and "radeonhd" get loaded, but "radeonhd" gets unloaded again. Btw: My hardware is a X1400 chip in a Thinkpad T60.

I did so. "Keep window thumbnails..." didn't change anything, but activating the scale methods "smooth" or "crisp" did both help. Now I see live previews but the box of the "Box Switch" effect is still missing and the text telling me the application's name when moving the windows to the background (e.g. when using the Present Windows effect) is still not available. Can I make sure that I'm not missing any artwork or font?

Please check the bugtrackers for this, and report it if it's not reported yet. (KDE bugtracker, file against KWin).
