[opensuse-kde] plasma5 on Leap or Tumbleweed in qemu/kvm/libvirt - success stories anyone?
Hi, I am trying to run openSUSE+plasma5 in a virtual machine driven by qemu/kvm with or without libvirt. So far, I did not have any success. I already reported a bug about this https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=954434 Issues I have: - black session with a DrKonqi Window about crashed kdeinit5 - black session without any window, only mouse cursor - switching back from text console to graphical session yields no screen update, i.e. still text console is shown, no reaction, also no blinking cursor What I would like to know if any of you had any success to run Leap OR Tumbleweed with KDE-plasma5 in a virtual machine driven by qemu, kvm and/or libvirt. IIRC, qemu/kvm doesn't offer OpenGL, and Plasma 5 requires OpenGL 2 to work. You may want to try and enable software rendering by putting a script in ~/.config/plasma-workspace/env: #!/bin/sh export QT_XCB_FORCE_SOFTWARE_OPENGL=1 export LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE="true" -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: A29D259B

Damn bad news, I was pretty sure we can if we use QXL video driver ... -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Board, fsfe fellowship GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot

Interesting problem for both Leap and Tumbleweed. My questions are, is there an easy way to find out: 1) if a "software rendering" is necessary, without going into the details of the video card. 2) if "software rendering" really works after enabling it with the above script? Plasma 5.5 (next upcoming version) will display an error telling you so.

It should work because it skips all the hardware OpenGL paths. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: A29D259B
