Problem with kmail and attached zip file
KMail works fine for me with nearly all attachments. If the attachment is a *.zip file and I double click on it, ark opens but with the message it is read only. If I try to open e.g. the *.mpg file in the zip it doesn't work. If I save the zip file first ark also works fine. Any idea how I can use ark with kmail directly. Is this a bug and can anybody reproduce this? Thanks Stefan -- 10 GB Mailbox, 100 FreeSMS/Monat http://www.gmx.net/de/go/topmail +++ GMX - die erste Adresse fr Mail, Message, More +++

I don't think this is a bug. But this is what I have noticed when using attachments from kmail: When you open an attachment, it is temporarily copied to a temp directory (in /tmp I think). It may be copied as read-only. The attachment remains there until you close the email or select another email for viewing in the previous pane. If you view an mpg from inside that zip file, do not change the email that is in focus. The attachment should remain valid until you select another email. I use the preview pane, so I don't usually open the email into a separate window. Hope this helps, Alvin -- Please reply to the mailing list.

You are probably right with that. As I mentioned before I do not have problem with any other attachments.

This is the missunderstanding we have I do use the preview window. When I double click on the zip attachment Ark opens the file read only as mentioned before. Disadvantage is that I can not open the files within ark nor can I save them. This happens no matter if the email has the focus or not. Regards Stefan -- Lust, ein paar Euro nebenbei zu verdienen? I just did a test. I created a .zip from an mpg that I have and emailed it to myself. I opened the attachment in Ark and right-click and selected view. The mpg played but the nspluginviewer crashed. Even with the crash, the mpg still played. I opened the attachment a second time and it still worked. In Settings->Configure Ark->General I unchecked "Use integrated viewer" and, when viewed, the mpg opened in kaffiene (my default video player) without any problems. You might want to try this and see if you can play the mpg. Alvin My stats: SUSE 9.3 Pro KDE 3.5.0 Level "a" Kmail 1.9 (from within Kontact) Ark 2.6.0 -- Please reply to the mailing list.
