Hi all, Is anyone here using the SuSE-provided KDE 3.3.2a packages under 9.0? Everything seems to be working for me apart from the screensavers (used to work fine under the stock KDE in 9.0) When I try to configure the screensaver, the little test area shows no patterns, no matter what kind of saver I choose (GL or non-GL), the "Test" button doesn't do anything, and if I leave the screensaver to kick in, it either doesn't do anything, or it hangs the machine[1] Any ideas? I'm using nvidia video drivers, which were fine with the old version of KDE, and are working fine in normal use of the machine. It's just the screensaver I'm having gyp with. Thanks, Matt [1] It could be something else hanging the machine, I'm not sure, but if I leave the machine alone with the screensaver turned on, sometimes when I come back to it, I've got no control -- not even switching to a text terminal or ctrl-alt-delete... -- "It's the small gaps between the rain that count, and learning how to live amongst them." -- Jeff Noon

Search vor "screensaver" in this List, and you will find "KDE 3.3 & non-functional screen savers". Here you'll get this answer : "I fixed the xscreensavers with these symlinks (as root) ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/xscreensaver /usr/lib ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xscreensaver/config/ /etc/xscreensaver That's because kxsrun seems to search for the xscreensavers at the wrong places. I straced this down like this: strace -f kxsrun atlantis 2>&1 |grep atlantis Daniel"
Thanks,
Matt
Michael

I do apologise. I'd done what I thought was a fairly extensive Google search a while back -- and I'd thought from previous experience that that would have hit the list archives, too. Apparently not.
ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/xscreensaver /usr/lib ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xscreensaver/config/ /etc/xscreensaver
Thank you very much. That worked perfectly. Matt -- "It's the small gaps between the rain that count, and learning how to live amongst them." -- Jeff Noon

Well sometimes it does for me, but what you could do ist to add a searchstring to your konqueror search strings. Open the konqueror settings and go to Web-shortcuts, here you press new or edit (to know how it is translated in english), and than you write for example SuSE-List < as Name and as Adress the strin below http://www.google.de/search?q=\{@}+site%3Alists.suse.com&btnG=Google-Suche and then you define a shortcut for this search engine, let's say "ls" for List-SuSE. Save this and close the setting dialog. If you know write into the adressbar "ls:scrennsaver" and hit enter, then google search for you the SuSE Archive Hope you will have fun with this ;-) Michael
