I bet they are somewhere below /opt/kde3. But probably the simplest way is to create a new user and log into kde as this user. It should create the icons in the ~/Desktop directory so you can copy them over to your own Desktop. Mario

They are copied into place the first time a new user logs in. The flag for whether this has happened is kept in ~/.skel/ The safest way to get them back is to create a new user, use the "switch user" facility of KDE to open a new login screen on console 8, log in, and then somehow (permission issues) copying the desktop icon files in ~/Desktop/ (or only those you want) back into your own account.
