[opensuse-kde] Firefox 29 (Australis)
Hi, I've just published the first Firefox 29 for openSUSE in the mozilla:beta repository. Since this version is a major update to the Firefox UI I'm seeking input from KDE users/developers which UI parts need adjustments when running under KDE. You probably know that our Firefox switches to a bit of different behaviour when running under KDE but with the new changes I'm not sure what's wrong now and what needs to be adapted still. So in case you are curious and want to give feedback, please feel free to install the beta package and let me know. Thanks, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Wolfgang, after short preliminary testing, at least the crucial parts of the KDE integration (namely filedialog and mimetype associations) seems to operate as with previous versions =) Cheers, Hrvoje
Thanks, Wolfgang

I just installed Firefox 28.99 from the Beta repo... and ran it through some basic tests. Everything is working well. The integration with the default KDE4.12 theme for openSUSE looks good. On initial view, I don't see any issues at all both visually and functionally. It's even faster startup/loading etc than previous versions. Firefox 29 needs a more recent NSS package. Those are always in the mozilla repository and I forgot to mention that. In general mozilla:beta always needs to also have mozilla repo to provide newer dependencies. Sorry that I missed that.

You should really update your Thunderbird. Version 24.4.0 is current and available through official updates or in the mozilla repo. Thanks, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Actually I pulled this version of Thunderbird out of the same directory and installed it without checking the version. Double oops! Thank you for pointing this out to me. I have updated it as well. rpm -qa | grep Mozilla MozillaFirefox-28.99-6.1.x86_64 MozillaThunderbird-24.4.0-15.2.x86_64 MozillaFirefox-branding-openSUSE-21-2.1.2.x86_64 Regards James -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
As I've no interest in uninstalling rv17, so I'm testing with Mozilla.org's 29b8 binary: 13.1/KDE3 http://fm.no-ip.com/SS/Moz/ff29b8-d132os131k3adwaita.png http://fm.no-ip.com/SS/Moz/ff29b8-d132os131k3raleigh.png 13.2/KDE4 http://fm.no-ip.com/SS/Moz/ff29b8-d132os132k4adwaita.png http://fm.no-ip.com/SS/Moz/ff29b8-d132os132k4raleigh.png These have all had most Australis UI alterations reverted by the Classic Theme Restorer extension. The most usable among the 4 is KDE4/Raleigh. All others, plus Oxygen, have the too skinny GTK scrollbars. In none does it appear possible to replace the too small nav icons with icons big enough to be visually meaningful. Is there some other theme, branding or icon set that provides icons the same size as in rv17? Is there anything other than Raleigh that makes scrollbars same width as in QT apps like KDE4 does, or anything that does that in KDE3? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." I've installed it yesterday via the 1-click installer on Tumbleweed (32bit system) and it is working nicely so far. Didn't notice any rough edges. Firefox 29 (or maybe earlier version) have web notification api for social services. It uses non-system notification popups as opposed to other notifications (for example downloading finish). GNotifier addon [1] fixes it. [1] https://github.com/mkiol/GNotifier -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

yes, since web notifations are supported all support for native notifications was removed to achieve the required flexibility of the standard (AFAIK). This was done a few version ago (before or with 24.0 already). BTW, this is even worse for Thunderbird since the flexibility of web notifications are not really required there. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=858919 Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Food for thought: Would it make sense to 'bundle' the GNotifier addon with the OSS packages of Firefox / Thunderbird ? (Similar to "Feedback" addon in beta releases) I do not know anything about the maturity of the addon, let alone the feasability bundeling the addon. But better to think about the possiblity than just cry over spilled milk. - Yamaban. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I wouldn't bundle it directly into the Firefox/Thunderbird packages. There is no need to actually. mozilla:addons would be a good target for an RPM package for the addon and offer it to users. From there we could decide if it would be a Recommends for whatever package combination or not.
