Hi all, is there a KDE program available to create relatively simple vector graphics? I found Karbon14 in my menus but it crashes permanently. I also tried sodipodi but I don't like it very much. Don't know how to diplay sizes of existing objects. There is a context menu item called properties which seems to display this info, but I can't interpret it. If someone knows a good non-KDE program, please let me know. Mario
Hi Mario, You should be able to find kivio (it comes as part of koffice) or I use OpenOffice Draw. I wonder why your Karbon14 crashes? What version of KDE and SuSe? Have you tried running karbon14 in a console window and checking its output? Personally I use OO for my office wants. Andrew On Thursday 13 May 2004 15:08, Mario Streiber wrote:

Hi Mario, You should be able to find kivio (it comes as part of koffice) or I use OpenOffice Draw. I wonder why your Karbon14 crashes? What version of KDE and SuSe?
This is SuSE 8.1 with KDE 3.2.1-12.
Have you tried running karbon14 in a console window and checking its output?
What I do is starting karbon, select "empty document" and select the rectangle button on the left and try to draw one. When I release the mouse button, karbon crashes. This is the output: mstreibe@max:~> karbon kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction::updateShortcut(): name = "edit_undo", cut = Ctrl+Z; No KAccel, probably missing a parent collection. kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction::updateShortcut(): name = "edit_redo", cut = Ctrl+Shift+Z; No KAccel, probably missing a parent collection. karbon: art_render_gradient.c:337: art_render_gradient_linear_render_8: Assertion `(stops[ix-1].offset <= offset_fraction + 1e-6) || ((stops[ix].offset > (1.0 - 1e-6)) && (offset_fraction < 1e-6 ))' failed. KCrash: Application 'karbon' crashing... Then the KDE crash manager comes up.
Personally I use OO for my office wants.
I'll probably give it a try too. Thanks Mario
Can you upgrade to kde 3.2.2. I had all manner of problems with 3.2 (although 3.2.1 was OK) also try to remove any configuration files for karbon that may have been created by an earlier version. If this fails try to reinstall karbon and its libraries. After that give up :-) I have tried karbon14 and have managed to crash it enough times so as I do not use it unless it is just to marvel at what a miraculous piece of software it will be in the future. I also found that inkscape is another one of those good looking bits of software which have potential but are not quite stable enough for serious use. This is one of the reason I stick to OO (that and it also works on my work laptop). Sorry I wasn't any more help maybe others will be. Andrew On Thursday 13 May 2004 16:38, Mario Streiber wrote:

I use SuSE 9.0 + KDE 3.2.2. I also tried to use Karbon because it looks exactly like that sort of software, I searched for. Unfortunately it crashes very often. A good way to crash: draw a circle and use the "fill with bitmap"-Funktion -> CRASH... Mario, You might give Inkscape a look. This is an branch from Sodipodi, but with a much nicer interface and many new features. The developers are very active on Inkscape, where sodipodi had grown dormant. You will probably have to compile your own, as I don't think I remember seeing a version for SuSE 8.1 anywhere. Find the 0.38 version at: inkscape.org Lee -- --- KMail v1.6.2 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.0 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...
