Re: [opensuse-kde] KDE 4.3.1 Desktop Errors
And that was what I got trying to start invalid items. Delete and create new is probably the fastest way to correct the problem. No, it's not. Come on guys, are you kidding or smth? The popup you are refferring to stated the deal absolutely clear - the .desktop file should be executable. So recreating .desktop files will be way longer

That will make .directory exec and also GnomeOnlineHelp.desktop, Support.desktop and myComputer.desktop as executable and they have no line: #!/usr/bin/env xdg-open as a first line in the file, but they work fine. Looking in .desktop files that have such line they are for applications that are not KDE native, so just making all exec will produce potential for mess down the road. -- Regards, Rajko People of openSUSE editor. Earlier, I tried to change the permissions of the entire desktop folder, based on the Error Message given above. Changing the permissions to '777' did not make any difference, though after trying instructions mentioned here: http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/Upgrade#Troubleshooting (remove plasma* & plasma-desktop* completely, code as quoted below); it did not help & made matters worse. kquitapp plasma-desktop && rm ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop* && plasma-desktop & I now find I cannot boot into /any/ type of KDE 4 desktop, there being only a blank screen, with a KDE Bug Report window, contents of which are at: http://www.nopaste.com/p/aVsNnlmBS The KDE4-Runner (Alt-F2) also does not work (earlier I could use the Konsole from Alt-F2), so I have to go back to tty-shell (C-A-F1) to run cmds.
