Hi,
in earlier openSUSE and KDE releaeses it was possible to use the "protocol" audiocd in konqueror. This resulted in a presentation of the files on the audiocd and some fake directories like MP3. When I used this yesterday on openSUSE-11.4 and Konqueror-4.6.2 it shows the (wav) files, the fake directories, etc, but when I tried to copy the files the copied files have a 0 (zero) bytes size. :(
What is the reason for this, is this a known bug (I searched for it, but could not find it)? Is there a way to debug this?
I have been able to retrieve the files, via an old openSUSE version I've but it would be so nice if this functionality would be working in the openSUSE-11.4 that I have.
I tried using audiocd:// and had the same experience as you it gave no indication of progress - I figured it must have hung so I killed it after a while. I assumed I was missing some package/codec as is often the case with multimedia apps - but with no obvious way to get debug output I abandoned the investigation.
So, it appears to be a general bug, which can either be a upstream or only an openSUSE bug.
k3b worked great though (it has a menu option "Rip Audio CD", install the necessary codecs beforehand).
Indeed this works for .ogg and .wav files. However it is not possible for me, to rip to .mp3 files. This is probably related with the fact that k3b starts with the following warning: --------------------------------------------------------- MP3 Audio Decoder plugin not found. K3b could not load or find the MP3 decoder plugin. This means that you will not be able to create Audio CDs from MP3 files. Many Linux distributions do not include MP3 support for legal reasons. Solution: To enable MP3 support, please install the MAD MP3 decoding library as well as the K3b MAD MP3 decoder plugin (the latter may already be installed but not functional due to the missing libmad). Some distributions allow installation of MP3 support via an online update tool. --------------------------------------------------------- But libmad is available: /usr/bin> rpm -qa | grep libmad libmad0-0.15.1b-2.pm.2.1 /usr/bin> ls -l /usr/lib64/libmad.so.0 /usr/lib64/libmad.so.0.2.1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 12 mrt 23:13 /usr/lib64/libmad.so.0 -> libmad.so.0.2.1 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 129464 24 feb 21:16 /usr/lib64/libmad.so.0.2.1 Is this is a bug in k3b? From the dropdown list in k3b it appears that mp3 is obtained via lame, and lame is working fine for me.... -- Richard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Wonderfull! I installed k3b-codecs and now the warning is gone, and I can write an audiocd to mp3! Many thanks Martin. -- Richard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
