That's weird, for me Konqueror starts filtering only when I have more than 1 character entered. So, unfortunately, I can't try out your example! My 'sysinfo:' says '3.5.7 "release 72"', by the way.
Due to that 2-character restriction, my test for reproducing looks like this:
aa1.txt bb1.txt ca1.txt
Now enter a1 in the filter input field, which will leave aa1.txt and ca1.txt shown in the list. Select aa1.txt and shift-click ca1.txt, press Del. My Konq now asks for confirmation about deletion of all three files.
A couple of us did some testing in #opensuse-kde. The problem seems to depend on the view mode used in konq. My reproduction attempts were with icon view, where the problem does not exist - but (at least) with detailed list view the behaviour is exactly as you describe.
