As suggested over there, I edited /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager and entered DEFAULT_WM="startkde". It does work now!
Possible cause: bash-script-file /usr/bin/kde4 (# Script for launching KDE4 applications from outside of the KDE4 desktop) If this file would either not exist or have another name the whole bug would not happend. Where does this come from ? upstream or is it suse/OSS? Eitherway, the 'start'-logic searches for the "$DEFAULT_WM" entry, if found in $PATH, it checks for executable, if yes starts it, if no then the logic does a try with "start$DEFAULT_WM" in $PATH. So the existence of a "kde4" executable in the $PATH hinders us here.
