Hello Tejas.
Thanks for replying, and yes, I am trying to import my address book from 3.5 to 4.6. The procedure that I used is this: Open the 4.6 Kaddress book, go to File > Import > Vcard. Opens up a menu and cli to navigate to the vcards, I can import tne one std.vcf card. (I have twenty) and a list of some email addresses will show up in the Kaddress book. Not in alphabetical order or arranged in groups (Business, Family, Friends, etc.) and nothing can be done with them. Cannot edit them or categorize them and they are all not there.
I suspect that the other cards might represent those groups but I am not sure and when I try to import them they just create double entries on some of the email addresses.

Bob, I just went through this same process. I tried moving the file containing the data from .kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf to .kde4/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf, but after restarting got the old empty info from before. Then I noticed that there is an Import/Export function under the File menu item. I exported my contacts as addressbook.ldif, copied that to my kde4 system, and imported it, and now the contacts from my old system appear on the new one. HTH, Thanks for replying Leslie,
Does what I did (above) differ significantly from what you did? Is your addressbook function properly? e.g. show the mailing lists, different groups, etc. so they cam be edited, added to, deleted etc.? Mine just shows one big long list of addresses mixed together. That is what I need to fix, When I am composing a mail and hit "select" I do get a full menu of choices like Distribution lists, Family, Neighbors, etc. but they do not show up in the addressbook itself. I hope I am being clear. Does your addressbook itself show those categories and are editable?
