Got the same problem. On my account I was using MSfonts (comic sans, arial, etc) and after upgrading to XFree4.3.0 got no fonts some KDE applications or very large fonts. So I set all fonts to unifont and after that got the possibility to change to fonts back as I wanted. Also running "fc-cache -fc" or "fonts-config" seems to help (at least for other people, but not for me).
