#1. There is probably an error in your user files somewhere. You might try removing all the files in /tmp and try again. #2. Your best bet here is to reset the BIOS clock on the motherboard. Usually when you start the computer, hitting the "Delete" key or F1 will take you into the BIOS settings to do this. You can do it from a shell or terminal prompt as well, it's just a bit more involved. Set the date & time with the "date" command then issue "hwclock --systohc" command to set the hardware clock to the new time.
