I couldn't remember the mails from the SuSE list, so went searching for the file you need to edit to make the icons correct. You need to visit your /home/<username>/.kde/share/config/kickerrc file and edit the lines below. Actually you only need to edit the one line, last one, to adjust the icon size. I think it is originally 32, but changing to 16 makes it just like your root's menu. If this doesn't work for you, go to the searchable mail archives and I'm sure the mail concerning this is there.
