Can please you comment on the stability of the Kile/KDE4 port? Would it be an absolute insane idea to ship a current snapshot in openSUSE 11.2? :-)
Hi, well we got asked a few months ago the same question by the ubuntu devs. And we agreed that it is okay to ship a svn snapshot. But, from my POV, this turned out not too well. The main things to check are: - The user has to know that this is beta software (already fixed, upstream thing) - The version number of kile must be so that we as devs know what the users uses (already fixed, upstream thing) - all upstream bugs showing up should, as usual, be reported to bugs.kde.org. (worked quite well) - users will more likely encounter bugs and don't know how to get a more up to date version. So what would be your idea for the last point? Can opensuse Factory provide binaries for the final version of kile once it is available?

Hi,
this email is about the question if Kile should be updated to the KDE4 version for 11.2 although it has only a beta release at the moment.
The KDE3 version which is in Factory at the moment is in my opinion somehow broken as all the default file viewers (kdiv, kpdf, kghostview) are already dropped from factory as far as I see and one has to configure kile manually to use okular.
Well the tools are the least problem. I could provide a patch for that. And from my own experience kile 2.0.3 is really stable.
Also there is at least one more or less critical bug in the KDE3 version which will not get fixed: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=189126
Although this bug is really scarry, it was only encountered once in the KDE3 versions of kile. So I think this bug would be no showstopper.
I have used the KDE4 version regularly over the last months and find it ready to use. And there is https://features.opensuse.org/306844 which would only be useful for the KDE4 version, as far as I understand.
The on-the-fly spellchecking is really a nice feature and is currently incorporated into KDE 4.4 trunk. So I would be okay with a beta version of kile in opensuse 11.2 as we don't have scary bugs open. If you do that I would kindly request a few things: - Don't exchange the scary "kile beta" splashscreen. This is on purpose. - Tell us the last date where you can accept updates for your kile packages. Maybe we can have a beta2/rc1 at this date. - Can you post the source code patches you add to kile somewhere? Usually distros fix a few things but also don't tell upstream ;) regards, Thomas -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
