KDE3.5 and *.jpg's

After installing KDE 3.5 on a SuSE 9.3 machine, I find that konqueror no longer recognizes jpegs. It recognizes and displays thumbnails of png, tiff, gif..... but not jpegs. I checked "file associations" and all seem normal. I can also use applications such as digikam and open office to view the jpegs with no problem. It is only konqueror that fails to see them. Any thoughts? Thanks, Bill
