Then, if you want, replace XF86 and new sax2 + saxident Then, add the KDE3-packages At last, change the configuration-files. -------------------------------------------------------- When you save the new packages on cdrom, you can install with yast1 via "source: none" and then the directory /media/cdrom/ (or what your /etc/fstab says; don't forget the last slash). Change all configuration-files at once. Make a backup before you change a file. In the virtual console (ctrl+alt+F2) you can use "vim" (see man vim; first learn how to change files with vim). -------------------------------------------------------- CONFIGURATION-FILES: - /etc/init.d/xdm Change second and third kde to kde3 - /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc [X-*-Greeter] -> SessionTypes=: Change kde to kde3 - /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc Here should be a copy or a link from the former file - /etc/opt/kde2/share/config/kdm/kdmrc Delete the file - /opt/kde2/share/config/SuSE/config Delete all - /etc/SuSEconfig/profile Change KDEDIR and QTDIR to kde3 and qt3 keep WINDOWMANAGER=/usr/X11R6/bin/kde - /etc/SuSEconfig/csh.cshrc Do the same. - /opt/kde2/bin/SuSEconfig.customized.kdm /opt/kde2/bin/SuSEconfig.kdm2 Delete, to prevent changing back to kde2 - /usr/X11R6/bin/wmlist Add above: kde3 - /etc/ld.so.conf Add "/opt/kde3/lib" and run # ldconfig - /sbin/conf.d/SuSEconfig.profiles Change kde2 and qt2 to kde3 and qt3 Add to PATH: $r/opt/kde3/bin: - /opt/kde3/bin/startkde Just the startfile for kdm or startx. You can do the same with the work-menu. You can link any program to it that you want. Hopefully Suse will decrease the amount of configuration-files drastically. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
