Hello - I have a number of client computers running SuSE11.2 with KDE4.5.2 and a single printer server using CUPs. I set up all my clients using YaST, to do all my printing via one remote CUPS server and point them at the printer server (also running SuSE11.2 with KDE4.5.2) The profile that the CUPS server is set up with is the Default profile that comes as is with SuSE. Recently I changes my passwords on the server, something I am prone to do once in awhile, and now I have an interesting situation that points me to think there is a KDE issue of some kind. From a command line, in a shell window, using the lpr command I get a request asking me for my id and password on the server, and when I enter my id and new password everything works fine and I get a printout. However GUI based applications have different results/failures! Firefox will pop up a dialog asking me to authenticate myself, but will not accept my new password (it is the same on both my client laptop and my server) However it will accept my old password and then I get a printout! Bizarre if you ask me!! Other examples: Xemacs will silently say it spooled my print request, but no print out occurs. OpenOffice also fails but reports simply that I had a print failure. Thunderbird simply reports the print request was successful and Ocular gives no feedback of any kind and sometimes crashes. So far I have not been able to find any GUI based app that will successfully print out documents. So what gives? If I am suppose to authenticate with user id and password, why don't these apps ask for it. It appears that the printer setup dialog is similar in each case so I would expect a popup dialog for authentication. How do I get applications on client computers to print out documents? Thanks in advance for your time and help, I have had this issue before but the remedy I applied back in SuSE 10.1-3 days, which was to reenter my user password on the server a couple times, did not work this time, so I am again stuck on this problem and not finding any answers on the internet...
