You forgot to post to the list - I resend ;-)
You could change to another different image file, then back to the one you want, so that it reads it. Or, change your script to write fileA and hardlink it to fileB, then make the slide show to choose alternating A-B. Or something of the sort, you get the idea ;-)
Good idea! Thanks Carlos... I just downloaded the image, copied it to a second file and Viola! Slideshow is happy to change it for me every hour.. Dumb slideshow can't handle a single changing image file apparently... If anyone wants the Astronomy Picture of the Day for a background image (or some other website image) I now have an improved Python script to fetch it and I use the slideshow to display it on the background wallpaper... I was an unhappy camper when this feature stopped working in Leap, now I am a happy camper once again! It is the small things that can bring great joy sometimes! LOL
Oh, I sure like the idea, but I use XFCE. I fact, I used a similar script, that's why I guessed about your trouble ;-) Mine broke after upgrading to Leap (XFCE). I have to find out why one day. But that is not for this list. Astronomy picture of the day, from the NASA? Nice :-) -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" (Minas Tirith))
